The Tom Cruise/Bryan Singer World War 2 film is going titled Valkyrie.  This was the codename for the Hitler assassination and named after the Wagner opera.

Academy Award winner Helen Mirren has joined the cast of National Treasure: Book of Secrets, the sequel to the Disney box office hit.  Mirren will play the mother of Nicolas Cage's character, Ben Gates.  Ed Harris has also joined the cast as the film's villain.  In this sequel, a member of Gates' family is implicated in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and Gates goes around the world trying to piece together clues to clear his family's name.  To do this he must collect the missing pages from the journal of John Wilkes Booth.  Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Jon Voight and Harvey Keitel will all return from the first.  The film is shooting now in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., London and Paris.   It will release in theaters for the Holidays, December 21.

David Duchovny says that a new X-Files film could be on the way as negotiations are just about settled to finalize the deal that will bring the 2nd film based on the popular series to life.

Paul W.S. Anderson(Resident Evil films) says he is still attached to the Castlevania films.  He is writing and producing the movie based on the long running Konami video game series.  The games dealt with a family of vampire hunters and their adventures fighting Dracula.

Quentin Tarantino's long awaited and talked about Inglorious Bastards is the next project for the director.  He says he wants to finish writing it while he's on the road promoting Grindhouse.  The movie has been talked about for years with various stars attached to it.  It's set in World War 2 and follows a group of soldiers on their way to be executed when they get a chance to reprieve.  It sounds like a take on the Dirty Dozen.  The script it said to be 600 pages and could be made into a 2 or 3 part film like Kill Bill.

John Cusack and Sean Hayes have joined the voice cast of the animated film Igor.  Igor is about a hunchbacked helper to the mad scientist Dr. Glickensten.  Cusack voices the main character Igor.  Hayes will be Brian the Brain, a brain in a jar that is Igor's friend.  Jeremy Piven, Jay Leno, and Steve Buscemi are also in the cast.  The film will be released by the Weinstein Company next year around Halloween.

Mike Meyers will write and star in a movie about a character he invented.  The character is Guru Pitka, an advice giving Indian guru.  Meyers has been playing the character in different stage shows in NYC for a few weeks now.  The 2nd unit director on Austin Powers will direct the film.  Other than voicing Shrek, Meyers has not appeared in a physical form in a movie since 2003 when he was in The Cat in the Hat.  The movie about the Guru will have this character called in to give advice to a unhappy couple.  A summer 2008 release is targeted.

Ray Winstone, most recently seen as Mr. French, the right hand man to Jack Nicholson's Frank Costello in The Departed, has joined the cast of Indiana Jones IV.  Winstone will play the sidekick to Indy.  The film begins shooting in June with a May 22, 2008 release targeted.

10,000 BC, the next film for big budget and disaster flick director Roland Emmerich(Day After Tomorrow) has been slated for a March 8, 2008 release date.

Darren Aronofsky is close to being signed up to direct The Fighter.  The movie is based on the life of boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward and his brother/trainer Dick Ecklund.  Ward would be played by Mark Wahlberg and Ecklund by Matt Damon.

Keith David will voice Barricade, the Decepticon bot police cruiser in the upcoming Transformers movie.  In other Transformers voice casting news, Hugo Weaving who provided the classic villain Mr. Smith in the Matrix, will voice Megatron.

A new Freddy Krueger film may be on the way.  It's not the much talked about prequel but rather a different film.  The two talked about options are a new, re-invention of the series with a young couple moving into their first house, the house just happens to be the home that Nancy lived in from the original Nightmare on Elm Street.  Or the more likely scenario is a Freddy vs. Michael movie where like Freddy vs. Jason, Freddy would do battle with Halloween slasher Michael Meyers.  Freddy vs. Michael has been in negotiations for a while.  John Carpenter is trying to make the deal on the movie and Robert Englund(who plays Freddy) says that he heard the studio was discussing the idea with Carpenter.

Zack Snyder, director of 300 and Dawn of the Dead, will direct a new zombie film after he finishes with The Watchmen.  The movie, Army of the Dead, is an original zombie action idea he had.  It will not be related at all to his Dawn of the Dead remake.  Snyder says it's more like an epic film where a father has to rescue his daughter from zombie hordes in a quarantined Las Vegas.

Martin Scorcese will direct Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street.  The two seem to like working together and all of their films together have been great so this should be too.  Based on a tell all memoir from Jordan Belfort, the movie would see DiCaprio as Belfort, a penny stockbroker who refused to cooperate in an early 1990s security fraud case and was sentenced to 20 months in prison.  The case was fought against widespread corruption on Wall Street and the banking world that included mafia infiltration.

George Clooney has been offered the role of Liberace in a biopic about the legendary performer.  Clooney admitted in an interview he doesn't think he'd be right for the role.  He says a comedian like Robin Williams should do it, Clooney feels he's not camp enough.

A remake of Teen Wolf is in the works, only this time it's a girl as the wolf.  The original saw Michael J. Fox as a teenager with a family curse of becoming a werewolf when you reach a certain age.  He becomes extremely popular as the wolf and is a star at basketball.  Smallville's Tom Welling could have a role in the movie.

Chad and Carey Hayes, writers of the decent remake of House of Wax are writing a remake of another horror film.  This time 1958 classic The Blob, which starred a young Steve McQueen.  There was also a 1988 remake but it sucked.  This new movie will move in a different direction having the BLOB be a Biological Lethal Organic Bomb or BLOB.  The government created it and tested it and now it's back and it's a fast moving blob that has a mind of it's own like the beasts in tremors or the zombies in Shaun of the Dead.  The new movie will be an ensemble cast with a female lead.

John Travolta says he's been contacted about doing a Wild Hogs sequel.  The comedy about middle age has been a big hit at the box office, catching Travolta and the cast off guard.  He says they thought it'd do about $20 mil the first weekend and it did 39.7.  Now it's up over $130 million in just a few weeks of release.  Travolta didn't deny that he'd do the movie, saying he wants to enjoy the success of this one for a while and then if they write a good script for a new one, he'd take a look.

Mark Wahlberg will star in the next M. Night Shymalan movie.  Shymalan's next picture is a thriller called The Happening, about a family that goes on the run from an apocalyptic threat to mankind.  The movie will release on June 13, 2008, a Friday the 13th.  Shymalan wrote and will direct as he always does.  Production starts in Philadelphia in August(M. Night's movies are usually set in Pennsylvania or Philadelphia, he was raised there).
